The Delta is a place of superabundant farmlands and bustling small towns and businesses like Clarksdale, where as some of us may know what it is like growing up in a small town, with not many schools to choose from, not many fun places to attend, and not many kids willing to do anything about the economy of their home place in the future. Clarksdale, Mississippi is a place that is not perfect but will most definitely get better in upcoming years. For me, growing up as a girl in Clarksdale, Mississippi I would like to change a majority of Clarksdale’s problems that will affect the future generation.
There are too some positive things to say about Clarksdale such as the annual Juke Joint Festival, the nice weather conditions, the downtown blues music, and the crossroads. There are many famous musicians from Clarksdale, also known as the southside, that have touched many souls of other musicians from other places in America. For me being a girl in Clarksdale, I sense a lot of blues music that I know other people from the south can relate to. Having many famous musicians from here such as Muddy Waters and Sam Cooke have inspired many young people from Clarksdale to want have a career in music;such as myself.
Speaking of Clarksdale’s problems, I know that I cannot fix everything, but one problem that I wish to be fixed in Clarksdale is more and better jobs to choose from. My motive for more jobs and better jobs is because Clarksdale does not have many to choose from. Growing up in Clarksdale, I see lots of people not wanting or either struggling to find jobs, and it makes me feel like our town could be better in so many ways. And with better jobs, we can have a higher and stronger economy. Better jobs leads to my second reason to make Clarksdale a better place for people. Having better food places to choose from. Having better food places and stops in Clarksdale can attract more visitors to come here and raise our economy a bit more. Young boys and girls enjoy food places to eat at with their friends. As a girl here, there were not many places to attend with my friends.
Being a girl in Clarksdale makes you want to change your community or environment into something bigger and better. Adding these good qualities to your community can make positive change in your environment. Growing up in a place where you see all the bad things happening, such as gun violence, crime, lack of jobs, and poor performances in school, you want to change every little bad thing into something that would make a huge impact on your hometown. Something that would actually make your town a great and safe place to live and learn from and a place that would be known as an excellent location spot to visit.
