Psst...today's entry is about the "G" word. Haven't you heard about it? You may know that some people have different sexualities. So, people use words to describe them like: Homo, dyke, lesbian, etc. The most common word used at my school is "Gay". According to dictionary.com, "Gay" has more than one meaning. As an adjective, it can be used to describe a state of happiness like being cheerful or glad. However most kids use this term for its opposite effect, that is to describe someone or an action in an offensive way.
When people hear the word "Gay" they instantly think of it gender wise. This is because it's commonly used like that around school and most neighborhoods here in Clarksdale. Kids here grew up calling one another "Gay" over something foolish like another boys simply poking each other. This is truly sad. Young children shouldn't even know the word better yet say it.
Everytime you hear someone call someone “Gay” Make sure you do something about it. You don’t have to be violent or anything, just speak up. This word is killing our society by making people hate and fear what is different or what makes them uncomfortable. Not just children but grown-ups too, maybe even elders. It's not okay to use this word to describe people, just because they are different from you. STAND UP FOR WHAT’S RIGHT! XOXO
